April List Sandwiches and March Wrapup

Happy April 1st everybody! Big announcement today on the Tribunal: we have no big suspiciously shocking announcement to share today. We are not going to make up some stupid sandwich-based prank as a gotcha to trick the one or two of you who haven’t quite woken up yet this morning and don’t realize it’s April Fools Day yet. It’s too much work, it just seems exhausting coming up with these big dumb pranks, and truth be told, I’m usually the guy falling for the most extremely obvious ones. I’m still mad Schlafly isn’t really making a St. Paul sandwich Stout.

Anyway we have some pretty interesting sandwiches in store this month! But first let’s take a quick look back at the sandwiches we covered last month!

In March we tried to get to the bottom of the Rachel sandwich, a variable variant of the venerable Reuben whose exact recipe seems to be disputed–turkey? pastrami? sauerkraut? coleslaw? Russian dressing? Thousand Island? We just don’t know! But we tried a bunch of them! We also enjoyed the simplicity of the radish sandwich, an elegant excuse to adorn good bread with a tasty vegetable. Finally, we made an attempt at the Dominican Riki Taki sandwich, a loosemeat and egg sandwich dressed with cabbage, tomato, mayonnaise, and ketchup before being toasted in a sandwich press.

That’s a lot of tasty things for one month. But we have more in store for April!

First will try to capture the essence of Roti Bakar, an Indonesian toast-based snack. Up next is the infamous “baloney” salad sandwich–along with ham salad and any other weirdo variants I might dig up. Finally, we will be trying the Ecuadorian Sanduche de Hornado, a sandwich that has nothing to do with green M&Ms, but instead features South American roast pork in a bread roll along with pickled onions and various other accoutrements.

There should be some good eating ahead. Come back and take a look!

Changes to the List

Modifications to the Wikipedia List of Sandwiches during March:

  • Nutella sandwich was added on March 13th. I’m pretty sure I can find a volunteer or two around here to help me out with those.
  • Curried egg sandwich was added on March 17th. I mean, it’s just egg salad with some curry powder, does it need its own entry? Yet I’m kind of into the idea. We’ll see.

Modification to our List during March:

  • On March 21st, I learned of a French sandwich, basically multiple hamburger patties in a baguette with fries, called Le Sandwich Americain. It appears to be legit and sounds perfectly ridiculous so I’ve added it.

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
