February List sandwiches and January wrapup

January was looking a little sparse, despite an excellent Pork Roll writeup by juliachildish (and, with all due humility, a pair of amazing posts by yours truly), when we had a flurry of activity at the very last moment, with my Month of Breakfast sandwiches and AndrewTSKS‘s pair of posts all dropping on the 31st. So we ended up with a very respectable 6 List posts in January.

February has some fun stuff coming up.

The List - January 2015

The Broodje kroket looks like a definite DIY item, at least I can’t think of any place where I might get one (though it’s very possible they exist in a city the size of Chicago). I know that there are Pakistani restaurants around here serving bun kebabs, though I will likely try making a few of my own. Butterbrot seems like a really easy thing to replicate for anybody, and Mindy has definite ideas about how we will be tackling it. So I hope some of you have ideas as well.

Please let me know in the comments if you’d like to undertake posting about one of these sandwiches, and give us a basic idea of how you’ll be approaching it so we’re not stepping on each other’s toes. I of course will be eating and writing about all three, and I’m excited to try them.

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.

I cooked a beef ragout last night that I’m going to make into croquettes and I’ll see what comes to me after that. Mindy is super excited about Butterbrot, having fond memories of Brötchen from when she was a little girl and her dad was stationed in Germany. As for bun kebabs, I’ve found a ton of recipes, both with meat and vegetarian. There’s a place up on Devon that serves them, I might go check it out to get a baseline.

Also, I don’t have a budget but at some point somebody should go check out the McKroket. Any Dutch correspondents out there?

I’m struggling here, but I’ll see what I come up with. I still have to write up my pb pickle and crisp experience, which is making me hungry just thinking about it.

If you can’t get a List post done this month, no worries, it happens. I’d love to see the crisp sandwich written up, or a post about burgers with the lot, which I don’t think we’ve seen yet either. 🙂
