September List Sandwiches and August Wrapup

Hello, everybody, and welcome to the 4th year of Sandwich Tribunal!

August has come and gone, and my garden is still crapping out tomatoes the size of pumpkins for at least the next few weeks, so all is well in Jim’s world. August was also another pretty good month for the Tribunal, in which we covered Mitraillette, the Belgian machine-gun sandwich with a pile of fries on top, the classic American diner melt (though I mostly talked about my favorite oddball version of it), and the German Mettbrötchen, which is basically raw ground pork on a crusty roll but is much better than that sounds. We also celebrated the 3rd anniversary of the founding of the site with a pretty spectacular BLT!

And now on to September!

September will have us looking into the Mexican Mollete, a kind of refried bean melt, which should give me plenty of opportunity to make salsa from the embarrassment of riches our garden has been providing. We’ll also be eating plenty of Montaditos, which are a Spanish open-faced Tapas sandwich. Finally, there’s the Monte Cristo, an Americanized version of the Croque Monsieur. These all sound tasty as heck, and I’m excited!

Changes to the List

  • On August 13th, Guédille was added to the list. It appears to be a French Canadian version of a lobster roll.
  • Also on August 13th, Grillade was added to the list. This appears to be another French Canadian sandwich consisting of grilled pork belly with mustard, onion, and tomatoes.

We’ll see if these sandwiches last, though I suspect we’ll be adding them to our list of makeup sandwiches as well!

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
