March List Sandwiches and February Wrapup

Welcome back, everyone!

Well. February! A couple of firsts for the Tribunal. Our first real Tribunal road trip, to Minneapolis to try the Jucy Lucy (with a side trip to St. Paul for some delicious Hmong food). Our first Tribunal video post!* Our first post from Ace, who explored a sandwich known to make grown men cry! And of course the Jibarito, which is definitely the first sandwich we’ve had on fried plantains rather than bread.

It was a pretty great month, especially after a fairly dry January. And there are more exciting things to come in March!

Katsu-sando! Is it possible this Japanese-style breaded pork cutlet will bring the elusive Brian out of retirement? We’ll also look at Kokoretsi, which is a Greek/Balkan/Turkish dish of offal-stuffed intestines (tasty!), which is sometimes served as a sandwich in pita or baguette, and Kottenbutter, a pretty obscure Westphalian snack that nevertheless may be nothing more complicated than smoked Mettwurst, onion, and mustard on dark buttered bread.

I’m looking forward to trying them! I’m a little freaked out about the Kokoretsi, truth be told, but there’s a place in Chicago that serves it so what the heck! I’m game! Anybody else out there eager to let the world know about one (or more!) of these sandwiches?

* Let me apologize deeply for the horror you all had to endure when I posted a video of me wearing a beret and eating a baguette stuffed with ham. More pictures of food and less of me, I get it. I’m completely on board with that.

Changes to the List

The Wrap was removed again. The debate continues. It stays on our list for now.

Some joker added a salmon-and-ice-cream sandwich, but it was quickly removed.

And behold, a new sandwich, the Zsíroskenyér! A Hungarian delicacy consisting of… huh. Lard, spread on white bread, with rings of onion. Well, it’ll be a while before we get to the Zs. We’ll see what happens.

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.

Hey, I drove to Kansas City for barbecue!

Josh, my apologies. You are clearly the pioneer here 🙂

How do you feel about this month’s sandwiches?

      • ElJosharino says:

Well I’d certainly like to eat them all, even if I’m iffy on offal. Thinking of something to say about ’em, that’s the trick. I really thought I was going to get a Juicy Lucy post put together this month, but alas.

I’m a little iffy on offal myself. Anyway, if you feel you have a post in you and it’s coming late, don’t hesitate to post it anyway! Your public needs you
