Today’s sandwich: rained out

I was going to go get a really cool-sounding sandwich for lunch today but I stepped out of the office around 12:40 and managed to make it across the street before the sky opened up and people started running like crazy for cover. So I walked a block south to one of my standby lazy lunch places, the Popeye’s Chicken in the Ogilvie Station food court. And I still got soaked getting there.

Popeye’s does have po’boy sandwiches, and they’re not bad, but I’m not a huge breast meat fan–I prefer their spicy chicken thighs. So I just got a 3-piece chicken and biscuit. But I wanted to have something for you today, so I deboned a chicken thigh, added some hot sauce, and made a sandwich of it with the biscuit. This was not a good idea. Something about the combination brought out a kind of maple-syrupy sweetness that put me off. Also, the biscuit basically disintegrated on my first bite.

I... well, I *like* that chicken from Popeye's.

So now it’ll likely be next week before I can go and check out this other sandwich that I’d intended to write up today. But it’ll be a doozy for sure, so you have that to look forward to. Not to mention that next week we should start to see some of our first posts about “The List.” So if you plan to play along and check out the List as we do, and maybe even tell us your sandwich stories, get over to my post about The List and The Format and let us know which of the 3 sandwiches you’ll be tackling.

I like sandwiches. I like a lot of other things too but sandwiches are pretty great
