December List Sandwiches and November Wrapup

Hi sandwich fans! It is now December: a time for being on your best behavior just in case Santa is watching; and yet a time also for eating all manner of desserts and letting your diet go straight to hell. You may call this being bad but I think I can speak for Santa and the rest of my fat bearded brethren when I say, it’s OK. You deserve that pie. Don’t forget to leave those cookies out on the 24th.

Of course here at the Tribunal a new month means new sandwiches to try! First though, let’s recap our action-packed November! November’s List sandwiches included Patacones, a Venezuelan type of stuffed fried plantain sandwich similar to the Puerto Rican jibarito. It’s worth seeking out if you get the opportunity! We also covered Toronto’s Peameal Bacon, including some on-the-spot reporting from our Canadian correspondent. Thanks Arlo! Finally, we dipped a toe into the waters of the Walla Walla Washington favorite, the peanut butter and onion sandwich. The less said about that, the better, but I hope to give you another shot some day, Walla Walla. On the non-List side of things, we started out the month finally trying Hormel’s infamous entry into the Fall Flavors canon, Pumpkin Spice SPAM! (Spoiler: it is not very good)

Now let’s take a look at what my jolly fat buddy is bringing us in December!

Pepperoni Taco is a pre-made, plastic-wrapped Icelandic convenience store sandwich that popped up briefly on the List a while back and caught our attention. We had to try it sooner or later. The Philly Taco, on the other hand, is a goof, a food stunt dreamed up by a couple of friends that has captured the imaginations of at least a few ambitious eaters. I’m scared already. Finally, Piadina Romagnola is a type of simple Italian flatbread that is often combined with salumi and other antipasti into a tasty wrap. We’re looking forward to this one!

There are some tasty things in store for the Tribunal this month. We hope you’ll come back and enjoy them with us! And as always, if any friends of the Tribunal, or fans (let’s call them friends-to-be) have the inside scoop on any of these sandwiches, give us a shout and let us know! We’d love to hear from you!

Changes to the List

Some minor additions to the Wikipedia List last month:

  • Chutney sandwich was readded to the list in November. We have of course already written about it.
  • The Turkish Kumru has been added as well. This sandwich caught our notice a while back and we have it on our schedule for some time in 2023 currently. Patience, folks! We’ll get there!

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
