November List Sandwiches and October Wrapup

Happy November, everybody! It’s the month when I go turkey-crazy–I’ll cook at least 3 of those things this month if not more. It’s also the month that we’ve hit the letter S in our alphabetic rundown of the world’s sandwiches, and we’ll be covering three more sandwiches. But first let’s talk about October.

In October, we started with Chinese Rou Jia Mo, one of the best things I’ve ever cooked, braised pork belly with bell peppers, cilantro, and pickled mustard greens stuffed into a split flatbread. Next came the Ruisleipä from Finland, a Nordic-style open-face sandwich on the marvelous Finnish whole-grain rye bread. Finally, we tried the Nebraskan Runza, a yeast-risen bread roll stuffed with ground beef, onions, and cabbage. It was an exciting month, but there’s more to come!

In November we’ll be trying Sabich, an Israeli street food, pita bread stuffed with eggplant and salad. The Sailor sandwich is native to the Richmond, Virginia area and looks like a drunken delight. Finally, Sandwich de Milanesa is a South American sandwich made with a filet pounded flat, breaded and fried, served on a bread roll. They all sound excellent, the kind of thing I hoped for when we started this sandwich life. It’s going to be a good month!

Nothing, really. A quiet month on Wikipedia.

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
